Born and raised in the UK, Mattie began his journey in sport at the age of four through his first passion – football. From an early age, he demonstrated a high level of commitment and determination, earning trials with elite clubs including Portsmouth FC, Chelsea FC, Southampton FC, and West Ham United FC.
After facing early setbacks and being released from professional pathways at the age of ten, Mattie developed a strong sense of self-discipline and resilience. Without external pressure, his drive remained entirely self-motivated and fuelled by passion and a desire to improve.
In 2011, his family emigrated to Darwin, where he quickly adapted to a new environment and went on to represent the Northern Territory between the ages of 12 and 16. At 16, he relocated to Adelaide with his older brother to pursue football more seriously. This period became a defining chapter, challenging his independence and shaping his character.
During his time in Adelaide, Mattie signed with Adelaide United Youth before progressing to Brisbane Roar Youth. While performing strongly, he was invited to complete pre-season with the A-League squad, presenting an opportunity to secure his first professional contract. However, an injury during pre-season shifted his direction and led him to explore opportunities beyond playing. While in Brisbane, he completed his Diploma of Sports Development, which led him into personal training / coaching.
Now based in Melbourne, Mattie continues to compete at a semi-professional level with Green Gully SC, while also leading as Operations & Coach at Asset Coaching. Since beginning his career in personal training / coaching in 2018, he has dedicated himself to helping individuals improve their strength, body composition, longevity, and mindset-four pillars he believes underpin long-term success in both sport and life.
